Solar Marketing in Nigeria

The grid did the awareness. Every household and business in the country already wants solar. What a solar company’s marketing actually has to do is narrower and harder: be the company a specific customer trusts with N2 million to N20 million, at the moment he has finally decided.

Most installers get that part half right. They generate enquiries. Then they lose them, on a phone that was on a roof.

Where the customers are actually lost

Not in the channel. After it.

A post showing a real 5kVA install in Gwarinpa with the family’s old diesel bill pulls 40 DMs and comments over a weekend. Eleven get answered on Monday, when the engineer comes off the roof. Four of those book a survey. The other 29 have quotes from two other companies by Tuesday. Nothing about the post was wrong. The leak was between the DM and the reply.

This is why “post more” and “run ads” are usually the wrong fix for a Nigerian solar company. The content is already producing enquiries. The cheaper fix is to stop losing them: an instant reply that asks about load and budget, a survey booked from a link, a quote with a follow-up sequence, one owner per customer, and a source on every enquiry so you know which post paid.

The order that works

  1. Fix the reply. Every DM, comment, call and form gets an instant, useful answer with the qualifying questions. Before spending another naira.
  2. Tag the source. Ad, post, estate group, referrer, Google, flyer. From the first message.
  3. Book the survey from the reply. A link, not a back-and-forth.
  4. Follow up every quote for days, automatically.
  5. Ask for the review and the referral after the first rainy season, when the system has proved itself.
  6. Then scale the channel that produced installs, not the one that produced DMs.

How GrowUp Business fits

GrowUp Business does not shoot your install videos or run your ads. It catches everything they produce and tells you which one paid. Every DM, comment, message, call and form lands in one inbox with its source and gets an instant reply. A landing page per package is built inside the system with a form that creates the customer and books the survey. Ad performance connects, so spend sits next to enquiries and installs. A review request and a referral request go out after commissioning, and referrals are tracked so the referrer is thanked. Installs per source are on the dashboard at month end.

If the leak between the enquiry and the quote is the real problem, the follow-up page shows how to close it. For the whole journey, read the solar software page.

Common questions

Where do Nigerian solar companies get most of their customers?

Referrals and estate WhatsApp groups produce the highest-intent enquiries, because a neighbour's working system is the best advert solar has. Instagram and Facebook produce volume, especially when a post shows a real install with the household's bill. Google produces people actively comparing. Nobody knows their own mix until every enquiry carries its source, and most installers are guessing.

Do Facebook and Instagram ads work for solar in Nigeria?

They produce enquiries reliably, especially for a specific package like a 5kVA lithium bundle at a stated price. What they do not do is reply at 9pm, ask about load and budget, book the survey, or follow up on day five. Installers who run ads into a personal phone pay for enquiries they never quote. Fix the reply and the follow-up first, then turn the ads on.

How do I get into estate WhatsApp groups?

Through a customer in the estate. One good install, one household that posts 'these people did ours' in the group, and you have a channel that no ad can buy. Ask for it after the first rainy season, when the system has proved itself, and make it easy: a message they can forward.

Should a solar company post prices on Instagram?

Post package ranges with the assumption stated: '5kVA hybrid, lithium, runs one AC and the essentials, from N X, price moves with the exchange rate.' A post with no price gets 'how much' comments that nobody answers. A post with a range and an honest caveat gets DMs from people who can afford it.

How do I know which channel produced my installs?

Every enquiry carries its source from the first message: which ad, which post, which estate group, which referrer. At month end you see enquiries, surveys and installs per source. Then you put the next budget where the installs came from, not where the DMs came from.

What about Google and a website?

Solar customers search. 'Solar installation Abuja cost', '5kVA solar price', 'best solar company in Lagos'. A simple site with packages, honest price ranges, real installs and reviews, plus a form that replies instantly, catches those people. A Google Business profile with reviews from real installs is what a customer checks before he trusts a company with N4 million.
